From the Ground Up
Fatima Begum never imagined herself as an activist. A garment worker from Dhaka, she joined her first organizing meeting after witnessing unsafe conditions in her factory claim the lives of colleagues.
“We learned that our voices matter,” Fatima says. “When we stand together, we have power.”
Training and Solidarity
AktivAsia’s fellowship programs have equipped organizers like Fatima with skills in advocacy, media engagement, and coalition building. These tools have helped amplify local struggles to national and international audiences.
Today, Fatima leads a network of women workers advocating for safer workplaces, fair wages, and an end to gender-based harassment. Her journey from factory floor to movement leader shows what’s possible when communities invest in grassroots leadership.
