Education Access in Nepal: Breaking Barriers

In Nepal’s remote mountain villages and urban slums, access to education remains deeply unequal. Caste, gender, and geography continue to determine who gets to learn. A growing movement is working to change that.

Every Child Deserves to Learn

Sunita Tamang was the first girl from her Dalit community to complete secondary school. Today, she runs an organization that provides scholarships, tutoring, and mentorship to marginalized students across Nepal.

“Education changed my life,” Sunita says. “I want every child to have that chance.”

Community-Based Solutions

Rather than waiting for government action, Sunita’s network has created community learning centers, mobile libraries, and peer tutoring programs that reach students where they are.

Through AktivAsia’s fellowship programs, education activists like Sunita have gained skills in organizational development, fundraising, and advocacy. Their work is opening doors for thousands of young Nepalis who might otherwise be left behind.
